How to Install Office 2007 in Windows 8.1

I have installed Office 2007 on my pc running windows 8.1 but no icon has been set up on the desktop

How can I get it to run without a start button to see all programmes?

I have a similar problem with a new and unused MSO 2007 CD on my new Win 8.1 Laptop. When I install, it tells me that it has completed but there is no icon and no executable files in program files. I was not asked to activate the software either. I have uninstalled the pre-installed Office 2013 trial using Control Panel.

Use the Windows Search facility to search for the Office applications and then right click on them and select Pin to Start and Pin to Taskbar.  The following image is a search for Word 2013.  In your case, just search for Word.

The first link gave me the answers I needed.

However, I cannot activate my MSO2007 product. This leads me to believe it will deactivate after a few uses. It never asked for/offered activation when I loaded the product. The only activation I can find is for Windows 8.1 and it has been activated.

The activation wizard normaly starts during/after the install, if you had a preinstalled Office trial this may have led to confusion.

You can activate by starting any Office component http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/activate-office-2007-HA001233434.aspx#top

Extending P's point, if this is a new computer that "came with" an installed factory trial of Office 365, you will have to uninstall the Office 365 and do an Office repair of your 2007 installation BEFORE trying the technique in the link the P. provided.

If you "upgraded" a computer to Win 8.1 then old installations of Office will be gone an you can go directly to the link P. provided.
